When choosing engineered oak flooring, quality matters. Ecodure Flooring, a family-run retailer, partners with trusted suppliers to deliver products that reflect our commitment to quality over quantity. Every detail—from sourcing to shipping—is held to high standards, ensuring durable, reliable floors. Here’s what to look for to ensure you’re getting the best, and how Ecodure delivers.
A high-quality floor starts with exact tongue-and-groove or click-lock profiling. Ecodure’s Engineered Oak planks are milled using the finest German Tungsten Blades renowned for precision - delivering an effortless fit, making installation smooth and reducing long-term issues like creaking or shifting. Poor profiling frustrates installers and leads to weak joints; our demand for accuracy ensures stability.
Finnish as in Finland! The multi-ply construction of engineered oak relies on strong adhesives to prevent delamination. EcodureOak & SomaOak both available at Ecodure Flooring use only top-grade Finnish adhesives, known for their durability, moisture resistance, and low-VOC emissions. This ensures our floors stay intact in fluctuating climates, aligning with our ethos of lasting quality.
Look for surfaces protected by advanced UV-cured lacquers or oils, applied in 7-9 layers for scratch and stain resistance. Quality coatings meet strict standards (e.g., Taber Abrasion Test) to withstand daily wear, ensuring your floor stays functional and attractive for years. Low quality coatings are easily scratched and across a large floor area are costly to repair. In addition, and in a completely adjacent floor category Bjelin’s Hardened Wood coatings combine with Woodura technology to ensure a surface 3x harder than engineered oak floors suitable for commercial and residential installations.
Coating finishes range from low-matte to high-gloss, letting you match your space’s needs. Matte hides wear in busy areas; gloss suits formal settings but market trends often dictate the order of the day. Right now very low matte lacquer is in high demand as it looks closer to a raw or oiled finish but has a strong durability game and less maintenance. Consistent application ensures uniformity, reflecting our dedication to tailored, high-quality solutions. Access to Treffert's most technical coating offerings give SomaOak a nice market edge.
We ensure every plank matches its grade—prime to rustic. In our SomaOak ranges, not only are the oak lamellas graded into A, B, C, D, E grading, each bundle is then re-graded into light, mid and dark tones ensuring the light raw oak is allocated to prime finishes and light colours and the dark tones the deeper tones. This isn't rocket science but it takes a consistent commitment to standards. This aims to produce more uniform premium grading and refines rustic allocations where more variation is accepted.
Ecodure partners with family-run producers & manufacturers with decades of expertise, backed by 25-30 year warranties. As a retailer, we prioritise clear communication and encourage showroom visits or showroom video calls to give clients a strong understanding of what makes our floors great. Our relationships with bespoke suppliers ensure quality-first products, true to our ethos.
From fine dimensional measures to bond strength checks, Ecodure’s manufacturers use multi-stage quality control to ensure when a floor is packed and shipped, it's incredibly rare it needs to be shipped back. Final pre-shipment inspections catch defects, ensuring only the best planks reach you—a direct reflection of Ecodure expectations.
Our floors come in a broad selection of shades, from natural oak to smoked greys with stable, even staining. Custom options let you personalise without compromising quality, supporting our focus on craftsmanship and customer choice.
Ecodure’s 14-20mm thick engineered planks, with balanced multi-ply construction, resist warping and are warranted for use over in-slab underfloor heating (contact Ecodure for other approved heating options). Further development of the Bjelin Hardened Wood range means oversized 271x2400 XXL planks are stable enough to install over large areas - floating or glued! Certified for dimensional stability, they perform in New Zealand's diverse climate, delivering the durability we stand for.
We use heavy-duty pallets with moisture-resistant wraps for safe shipping. Product box packaging is recyclable, and oak is sourced from FSC-certified forests. This reflects Ecodure’s commitment to sustainability alongside quality. Careful shipping is important as damaged materials only cause additional manufacturing, shipping and waste.
In conclusion, Ecodure Flooring believes every step matters, from responsibly sourced materials to robust construction and eco-friendly packaging. By working with family-run companies and bespoke suppliers, we ensure our engineered wood flooring meets our own high standards, delivering lasting value to your home.
